Terms and Conditions

1) Counselling is confidential, meaning that personally identifiable information is not normally shared without client consent.
2)Counselling is supervised. Supervision is bound by the same principles of confidentiality. Client's names and details are not shared with my supervisor.
3) Confidentiality will be breached if I consider that a client is at a real risk of posing harm to them self in terms of risk to life or serious injury. 4) Confidentiality may be breached if I consider that a client is at risk of posing harm to a third party or is harming a third party. Confidentiality may also be breached, if I consider that a client is unable to protect themselves from serious harm by a third party where there is a serious risk to health or life to the client and/or others.
5) In serious cases, confidentiality will be breached in the Public Interest. This relates to information where I consider that a client may be breaking the Law with regard to Terrorism, Treason, Money Laundering, Driving under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, Drug Dealing, Child Protection, Violent Crime, Kidnapping, Child Abuse and Circumstances where others are suffering serious harm.
6)Where possible I would inform the client of any intention to breach confidentiality and obtain the client's consent. This may not always be possible due to the urgency/legality of the situation.
7) Client records and details are stored in a locked filing cabinet. Client details will be destroyed 3 years after the end of our work.
TERMS OF WORK
8) Any form of aggression is not endorsed as part of the Counselling Agreement. I reserve the right to bring work to a close in this case. This applies to incidents in the therapy room, both virtually and verbally by telephone.
9)I will reserve the right to bring work to a close in the event of 3 out of any 4 sessions being cancelled. This does not apply, when there has been an agreement made, that the client is taking a break and when a date to resume work has been agreed.
10) I will reserve the right to bring work to a close in the event of sessions consistently not being paid for.
11) Any decision made by me to bring Therapy to a close in relation to 8) 9) and 10) of this contract will be discussed in advance with the client and I will endeavour to offer a planned ending.
12) Online/Telephone - the room used will only be occupied by the counsellor; the client will also be alone, in a safe space, not overheard. If cut off for whatever reason, we will try and reconnect on another device, as soon as possible.
REVIEWS
11) We will hold regular reviews, listening out for the client's experience of the work and making sure that the work is beneficial to the client.
12) In the event of a professional decision being made by me, that therapy is not benefiting the client, I reserve the right to end therapy in the client's best interests. Where appropriate and possible, I will share my thoughts with the client in advance and work together towards an ending.
KEEPING SAFE.
It can be the case that a client expresses thoughts about and/or a wish to end their life. It can also be the case that I am concerned that this is the situation, without it being expressly stated. Embedded in my practice is a Care for the client's safety. I will carefully discuss with the client the need to keep themselves safe between sessions and suggest that they ring the appropriate services, if they feel at risk. I will also require that we complete a Safety Plan as part of our work. This can be a very empowering exercise.
Urgent contact: I can be reached on the above details but cannot guarantee an immediate response. I am not able to provide crisis support. Extra sessions or check-ins can be agreed between the counsellor and the client. Noting that I am not available 24/7.
Telephone 999 if you need urgent mental health help.
